The How To's of Content Creation Video

Explain how you should be using your videos.

Content Creation video

[00:00:00] Rachel Whittaker: So you can take video with so many different tools. These days you can take it with your mobile phones and they’re getting better and better and better doing stuff like slow mos and long distance and zooming in and giving you a really good framework of content that you can capture that you can use in so many places.

[00:00:19] And. I’m going to give you some extra tips that you can use the video for that you might not have considered that it’s going to make it really easy for you.

[00:00:28] Introduction speaker: Welcome everyone to the Breast Hustle podcast, where we took all things, women, women in. Leadership and women’s health hosted by Rachel Whittaker owner and amazing inventor of the one handed bra bra, easy a podcast where she shares her journey on building a lingerie brand with a difference.

[00:00:53] And now here’s your host, Rachel.

[00:00:58] Rachel Whittaker: Welcome back everybody [00:01:00] to the breast hustle with me , Rachel Whittaker. And this week we’re going to be doing video the how to, of video creation. So this is a really high level. So don’t think that I’m going to dig in too deep that you’re not going to understand where I’m coming from.

[00:01:16] So I just want it to be really clear with that, that this is just the easy things to do that you can go back and implement straight away. And who doesn’t love video.

[00:01:29] So you can take video with so many different tools. These days, you can take it with your mobile phones and they’re getting better and better and better doing stuff like slow mos and long distance and zooming in and giving you a really good framework of content that you can capture that you can use in so many places.

[00:01:47] And. I’m going to give you some extra tips that you can use the video for that you might not have considered that it’s going to make it really easy for you because you know who doesn’t love a bonus. [00:02:00] Right? So, so bare with me and we’ll get to all of the detail . When you take a video. Often a lot of people don’t know how to add in all those special effects.

[00:02:12] They don’t know what they, how they should use it and what platforms they should use it and what resolutions they should use it at. How many frames per second, how big the frame should be, whether it’s landscape or portrait. And a lot of that is dependent on what platform is going to use it on.

[00:02:29] If you think you’ve got this covered, then don’t bother watching this video. But if you think you could do a little bit better or you need a little bit of help, that’s where I’m here to help you today. And I’m hoping that this saves you money and time, because we all need to get time back every single day.

[00:02:47] There’s never enough time in the day for me to get all the things done that I want to aspirationally achieve. But I do try to get a lot done so that I can [00:03:00] actually have some time off at some stage. So let’s get on to video creation. So you might have grabbed your phone and, and you’ve gone out into the wilderness and into the wild outside of your home, or even inside your home.

[00:03:14] And you just want to talk to people. The things to consider is when you’re doing that is trying to be in that middle center of the video, unless you’re going to use that for. Some graphics that you’re going to put onto one side and then you want the person to be slightly to the right or the left, depending on your preference of where you want the text to be.

[00:03:39] Always consider what you’re going to use it for. You can always green screen it and take out the background. And that gives you the ability to move the person left and right as you need texts to come into the screen. So that’s a fun thing to consider. Do you need to green screen it? And green screening can be really fiddly.

[00:03:59] [00:04:00] And it took me a little while to get my head around how to make really crystal clear with the green screen behind me. And don’t expect that when you do color keying inside premiere pro that one . Color Key for a green is going to take out all the green. You probably need to do three or four versions. So you getting any, any darkness.

[00:04:24] So darker , greens to lighter greens that you can filter out and remove out and put a different background in. So this is actually my background. I’ve got no green screen in. I thought for a podcast, it wouldn’t be, there’d be no benefit, but I also figured because I’m going to record these. I actually just wanted to be a nice environment and green screens.

[00:04:47] I can get a little bit excited and make it super technical and it can take me hours and hours of editing because I want to put all these special effects in. So consider what you’re going to use it [00:05:00] for. Do you need a green screen or not where the person should be positioned and who’s your audience and that’s the number one thing.

[00:05:09] Who were you going to be presenting this video to? How are you going to convey the message that you want to convey? And what’s your topic or theme that’s in that. And can you get, or can you leverage off that video for multiple content for your website or for your social media or both? Because we talked about exporting things as a web legacy on photoshop.

[00:05:38] I would suggest don’t ever restrict yourself to one format. And the way you can do that is really, really simple when you’re using tools like premier pro, whatever the size of the first thing that you import into your workspace will [00:06:00] be the dimensions of the video. Or you go into the properties and you actually define the dimensions.

[00:06:07] So if you’re going to do a video, that’s going to go up and Instagram, everyone’s going to look at it on their mobile. You would want to use that beautiful portrait view that would convey the message really well on Instagram. For instance, when you put that same video into say YouTube, it will automatically resize and a lot of cases.

[00:06:29] Or they put a lot of black. You might’ve noticed that. So have a consider what your frame size should be when you’re creating all of these and you can change it later, if you need to, if you want to put it onto a different platform. So it’s not do it once and you can throw it away. It’s still at once and you can use this over and over and over.

[00:06:52] One of the really amazing things that I love inside premiere pro is to be able to export a single. [00:07:00] Frame into a JPEG that you can then use on all your social media and you can put text all over that. It gives you the thumbnail that you need for videos when you’re putting it up on YouTube. Also it gives you a thumbnail.

[00:07:13] If you’re putting it up on a website, you might want to put a thumbnail in there because that’s what first gets downloaded. When people go to your website. And so they’re not having to wait for the video to start up, they get the image and then they can press play. And they’re good to go. Some websites, they embed the image or sorry, the video inside the website that’s dependent on the themes that you use.

[00:07:39] And of course those play instantaneously, but it can also slow down when somebody comes to the website, it’s waiting to upload in the background. And so that can delay other images coming up and slow down your websites substantially. So things to consider that sometimes having an embedded [00:08:00] video in side your website is not the greatest thing you might want to consider having a link to YouTube and having a thumbnail in there, because that will be a bit quicker, just little things that I’ve learned on the journey.

[00:08:13] If you want to export lots of those images out of the video that you’ve made, you can. And then you can use that. You can use small snippets where you cut sections of your video down to 20 seconds, 30 seconds, up to a minute depending on what platform you wanting to put it on to in Facebook. Now you can actually put it like more than 10 minutes on in video, which is super interesting.

[00:08:40] That’s changed over the journey. You’re still restricted on Instagram and really that audience, you don’t want to go for longer than about a minute to two minutes in any form because people get bored. and leave your got to entertain them for a long time. So things to consider when you’re making your video is [00:09:00] take the video contemplate.

[00:09:03] What’s the theme that you’re wanting to convey and the message that you’re wanting to convey to your audience. Other things to consider with video. How long do you want it to go for what platforms you’re going to put it up to? So for things like YouTube, you will be interested to know that when you initially put your video on, it actually takes YouTube sometime to work out how to make that into the dimensions that can be seen on all devices really quickly.

[00:09:33] So you might want to consider. When you put a video up on YouTube, don’t actually make it available to anyone for a couple of hours. And that will give YouTube the time to go and frame it in the right proportion. So that on all the devices, it’s easy to watch and it’s in the right dimensions and it’s crystal clear to the person that’s viewing it.

[00:09:55] So you might not have known that it does take time for that to happen with YouTube, [00:10:00] what you get initially. Is not what you get further down the track. There’s much more work that they do in the background. So things to consider when you’re posting to YouTube. The other thing you want to consider of course, on YouTube is your tags.

[00:10:15] So I use a tool called Tubbuddy, which I find really, really helpful in the tags that I use, what content I’m going to put on. As far as the text that describes the video and is clear to people so that they understand what the topic is all about. In, when I put the text captions on to all my videos, because I want them to be accessible to people with a hearing impairment, for instance my.

[00:10:45] Ex husband’s parents were both deaf. So I came up, I grew up in that, that that environment and learnt a lot about what, how deaf people do things. And so I want to make my videos accessible to people with a hearing impairment, [00:11:00] obviously with podcasting that’s. Not easy to do because it is purely hearing.

[00:11:06] But having said that, I always put the text in of what I’m talking about during the video with the timestamps. So people can have. Screen readers , if they’re vision impaired and a it makes it , just a more accessible video for everybody. So I hope that this has been really interesting for today. Things to consider.

[00:11:27] So tools to use. I’ve mentioned premiere pro because that’s what I like to do. All my video editing on. I know a lot of people that use Camtasia, which is a really simple tool to use, but you don’t get all the bells and whistles. So to be honest, you get where your pay for . You would still have to use tools like Descript to be able to put your video up, grab all of the text.

[00:11:52] It does put all the captions in for you, and then you can then cut and paste it into your video and load that up onto [00:12:00] YouTube. And you’ve got fully captioned the opportunity to correct all of the errors that that makes it can never get my name. I guess whittaker is really, really hard. And so I’m always having to correct things like that.

[00:12:15] And, , some other words that I say, obviously Australian is really hard for these tools to understand, but it does a really, really good job and it takes all my ums out. Which is great because I seem to do a lot more of those than I thought probably about 17 per episode. And I’m trying to get that number down.

[00:12:35] So I always have a goal within these episodes to improve myself and be better at what I’m bringing to you on a daily basis. So. Camtasia premier pro have a think about the tools that you want to use. You can do so much. You can cut up things and use a really long video in lots of little, little short snippets [00:13:00] across multiple platforms, which is amazing gives you the ability to spread your content out. You might want to tell a story over a number of episodes and you can do that and something for people to look forward to. So think about who your audience is, what you’re trying to convey and keep it exciting for people. I love the editing part because I love to put the music in and get a little bit creative. So that part, it was actually fun to me and a lot of people hate it. So be prepared, you are going to have to edit and to get the result that you’re looking for. So a professional result you really need to do and spend some time doing the editing. Often the editing takes way longer than the content that I created.

[00:13:49] I’m sure you’ll find it fun. Go through YouTube. If you wanting to know how to do different effects anything with premiere pro, you can Google it [00:14:00] on YouTube or you can search for it on YouTube and find how to make. Text fly in and the, the whole shot flying in and out and spin around. And you can do all these funky things, putting texts or graphics on their images.

[00:14:15] And even if it’s just putting those captions in, it’s a really, really, really good tool and so easy to use. But if you need to just spend the time, you will get better, the more you play around with it. So it’s a fun thing to do. I’ve taken video of all my family and exported pictures of my mother-in-law in places all over the world, because she was pretty keen to see that at, when she was 92.

[00:14:43] And so I had her at at the palace because she loves the queen and, , it was pretty funny. She was sharing that photo around as if she’d actually traveled. It was amazing. She loved it. I’ve taken video of my husband with [00:15:00] the green screen behind him. So anytime he needs a face shot for anything, I can actually go and export that straight out of that video with minimal challenges.

[00:15:08] It’s crystal clear. And, , I’ve got every expression under the sun. So things you can think about, get your video yourself and edit it. You can do some really amazing things with premier pro reducing people’s ages. So in Photoshop, so where you do the export of the, the JPEG out of the video that you’ve taken, and then you can Photoshop the photo to look like, whatever you want, taking our backgrounds, adding in backgrounds have beautiful texts and you can post that then on your social media. So it gives you unique content because it’s you. And that’s what we want. We want to be, and be there for our community. And you can do that with video.

[00:15:53] You can do. Recently, I did a whole slew of videos, which were reading out the testimonials that have been [00:16:00] sent to our business, which was really exciting. And I’ve done videos of me saying thank you to our customers for braeasy to our community. I think that’s really important to share that personal message with our customers on all of our platforms.

[00:16:15] So. Yeah, I would invest in premiere pro get used to give yourself the time. And you do need a little bit of time to test all of the features. Do the tutorials. There are so many tools that you can use on. Premiere pro that you’ll never run out of funky changes that you can make to the videos that you do.

[00:16:38] That goes from being an amateur video to something looks really, really professional and polished. So I hope you enjoy how to create videos in. Premiere pro you would export it as a H264 which then makes it multi a resolution abled to be put on all [00:17:00] platforms. So you can also export straight from the premiere pro into an audio file only.

[00:17:06] So you can export your audio into a podcast. For instance, there’s another tool within that platform that will enable you to get content out to your community. Thank you all again for listening and subscribing and liking and following. And I hope you keeps sharing our podcast episodes out with, with your girlfriends.

[00:17:26] And I’m pretty excited. We’re going to be having some interviews soon. And so there’s a few people that have said yes, that they want to. Come onto my podcast and happy to share their stories. So that’s going to be super interesting. And I think next week we’re going to go on and I think next week, we’re going to have the topic of how to create a podcast.

[00:17:49] That was interesting. That was a big learning curve for me. And, but it was really fun. I don’t think I understood just how many different platforms a podcast can go to. [00:18:00] But I know now, and I’m here to help share that content with you. And if it inspires someone to be a podcaster, I’m happy to be on your podcast.

[00:18:11] Just ask me and let’s have a chat. I would be super excited. One of the interviews that I’m going to be doing in the near future is a lady that has an amazing business where she helps authors. Create their books. And I think that that topic is going to be pretty amazing. I don’t think that we’re going to stick to the 10 minutes because when we get together, we tend to chat on for hours, but I definitely won’t make a podcast going for that long, but thank you all for listening and tuning in.

[00:18:46] And following us and sharing out our podcast out with your friends, for the likes and the comments. And don’t forget that on our website, we have a. Infographic for you to download that helps you [00:19:00] with videos and enjoy. I love to give this free stuff away to you guys. All right, I’ll talk to you again soon.

Content Creation Episode 1

Image Formats. What’s a JPG and what’s a PNG.

Rachel Whittaker: I’ve had so many women ask me how to optimize the images for their website. They don’t even know where to start and they don’t know what tools that they need to use to do that. They don’t know the dimensions and they don’t know how to speed up their website by optimizing the images. So I want enable you to be able to do that.

I’ve even been offered money to do it for other people. And really it’s super simple. It’s just because they don’t know what to do that they think they have to outsource it. So I’m going to save you money today by giving you the tools to be able to do this really quickly. Welcome everyone to the breast hustle, podcast , where we talk all things, women, women in business leadership and women’s health hosted by Rachel Whittaker owner and amazing inventor of the one-handed bra braeasy a podcast where she shares her journey on building a lingerie brand with.

And now here’s your host Rachel.. Welcome back everybody to the breast hustle. With me Rachel Whittaker , and I’ve decided we’re going to have a real pivot on the topics and how I structure these podcasts. So I hope you like the changes and I’m just going to give you stuff. So I thought, why not. . Let’s gift a whole lot of information to you guys that you can go to my website and download and enjoy.

So you’ve got reference material. So in this podcast series, you’re going to be able to walk away with the ability to create the ability to post them on multiple platforms. The ability to put stuff on your website. That’s optimized. So. Your website is fast because that’s the goal. We don’t want to take up.

People’s time when they’re searching for things on our websites. Do we? If you’re not interested in, in how you can make your images better for all of those different platforms, including your website. [00:02:00] Then you don’t need to listen to me. If you think that you need to do a better, then I’m going to show you the simplest framework that you can go and implement straight away, and then you’ll be able to do it anytime.

Of the day or night, cause that’s the way we work. Isn’t it? We work 24 7 us ladies. That’s a, yeah, it happens. So the reason I picked this topic today and when I dug into it, I thought this actually needs to be a series because there’s so much information and I want to keep these podcasts really short for you. When I get questions from girlfriends about resolution size and how to optimize images, and what’s the best dimensions to be able to post on Facebook and Pinterest and Twitter and LinkedIn.

And the list goes on of all of the different places that you want to post to, to help promote your business. So what could I do to help you to walk [00:03:00] away with the skills to be able to do that. . So I felt like the first part, the starting part needs to be for you on how to create those images in a way that you can use them on multiple platforms.

So this podcast today is all about how to the, how tos of creating your images. So I think you’re going to find this super interesting. There is lots of information and I’ve also put a, infographic on my website. So you can go and download that for free. I just want to offer you great value so that you guys go away with the skills that you’d need to be able to build and post and manage your businesses and understand the mechanics in the background.

So let’s get started on the, how tos of images. So let’s get started with Facebook. Now, Facebook is a little bit fiddly because it actually has different size images for [00:04:00] different postings. So one of the things you need to consider with Facebook posting of images is always about whether it’s horizontal or vertical, whether it’s a link or it’s in a story because of those, the dimensions are often really different.

And so one of the things that I usually encourage people to do is try and take a generic, ratio for your images, so that at least you can use them in most of those instances. And it’s a little bit of cropping. In the tools for Facebook publishing that you can do really quickly, but let’s get that image in the right format for you to use.

And some people get really confused with, should I use a JPEG? Should I use a PNG? Now JPEG is used multiple times everywhere on most platforms. It’s really simple. A PNG is used for things like removing the background. So that looks invisible. So you [00:05:00] have just a portion of that and you could use that for text.

So I’ve used that in a brand and I’d put an invisible background on it. So then when I published that PNG anyway, it actually just looks like the words. So that’s how that’s done. It’s a PNG file. It is a really big file. So it’s not something that you would want to use everywhere. If you put all of your images on your website, as PNG’s, they going to be massive files.

It is going to work really slowly, and it’s going to take a long time. So you don’t want to do that. You actually need to optimize and put it as a JPEG. So, how do we optimize? That’s the big question. And so I use a tool called Adobe Photoshop. I find it really easy to use. It took me a little while to learn all of the nuances of Photoshop and how it works.

It’s quite simple to put up the dimensions. The pixel size that you want to have the image to start off with. So you set that parameter upfront. It makes it really easy going forward. When you export out you use web legacy, because that is the smallest fall type as a JPEG that you can possibly save.

So that if you’re using that image on your website, your website’s still really fast. When you’re uploading these things and I’m posting them on different platforms, often the size of the file, isn’t a big deal. So you don’t really need to optimize it to put it up on Facebook or Instagram. However, having said that you do want everything to be fast.

So why don’t you just export it the one time in a format that you can use both on your website and all of your socials and get the best for. I think that’s probably the simplest thing to do. So dimensions we’re talking about, this is the PX that you see everywhere when you’re using these different tools.

Another one that you can use for a small JPEGs is tiny JPG,which is great for just putting your photo up there. It will reduce it and you get the same resolution. So it’s nice and clear. And crystal clear when you are changing those resolutions. That’s when you can make things a bit blurry, a little bit grainy, it’s that quality that you’re looking for.

That you want from these tools so that when you put it up on your socials, it looks nice and crystal clear. So don’t fall for the . Let’s make it 12 KB size and it’s an awful blurry image. That’s not going to help you at all.. Now, when we’re looking at Facebook, if you want a horizontal image, you’re looking at 1200 by 628 pixels that typically will go across multiple areas of Facebook.

So that you can be confident that you don’t have to do too much once you’ve actually uploaded the image . For Instagram you stick with the square 1080 by 1080 pixels. And for Pinterest it’s 1000 by 1500 pixels. Websites depends on what you’re trying to post for. So if it’s a product image, you might want to keep it small by 600 by 600, for instance, which is also another great one that you can use on Instagram, they will resize it because it’s a square.

If you do it too small, and then you go to put it up on Instagram, you might find it’s a bit blurry, so it will just stretch it to those dimensions on that platform. When you’re doing it on your website, you’ve got control of the size of the image can be small, large, medium on most of the platforms. You can put it in that way.

So it’s just things to consider about where are you going to put the image on what you’re going to use it for? And can you use that image across multiple [00:09:00] platforms and how to do that? And sometimes the call-out is these platforms change. So, so rude, just check it every year to make sure that they are the current dimensions that you should be using.

Another thing to consider is whether or not you put your branding on it. Do you need a watermark on that image? Do you need to consider copyright if people are going to try. Take your photo and repost it on other platforms. So just to put a little brand in the corner sometimes is great, but you might not want that on everything.

So just consider where you’re posting it. One of the other tools that you can use when. Looking at these images, you can use the same image over and over again, by putting a color overlay over the top. It gives it a different feel. You can make things black and white, which sometimes can really stand out.

And it’s all about the message you’re trying to convey. So what I recommend is don’t fiddle too much with your image in the first instance, [00:10:00] consider that just before you post. So if you’re enjoying our podcast, make sure that you like and subscribe and share it with your friends, because we’re going to be bringing basically a masterclass to you on the how tos of content creation.

I want to enable you to be so successful and to never, ever have to ask another person to optimize your images for you, because you can do it yourself. You could still ask them, but it’s not because you have to it’s because you haven’t got. So thank you for the follows and shares and likes, and I’m, I’m really encouraged by this topic.

This is going to be so much fun to get in and do this masterclass of content creation. Very high level, because I could honestly talk for the year on this one subject. And I think we get a bit boring and it’s a bit too much. So thank you guys for sharing and following and be sure to subscribe and go ahead and download that, [00:11:00] that info infographic to use as reference material.

I hope you enjoy it. And next week we’re going to do video. Catch you later.
